A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of joining various fashion bloggers on a trip to the Historic Saratoga Race Course. To say the experience was amazing would be an understatement. We started the day off listening to one of the female jockeys, enjoyed a wonderful brunch and took a quick tour of the race course — as well as meet some wonderful fashion bloggers.
In talking with Victoria and Dan, brand ambassadors for America’s Best Racing, we quickly learned that horse racing is more than just about the races — it’s about being part of a fun and open community that enjoys great food, fashion and love of equines. Victoria actually grew up surrounded by horses and attending the races with her family. She now travels the country to all of the prestigious race courses teaching everyone all she knows about the sport and lifestyle.
My favorite part of the day was walking through the paddock where we had the opportunity to get a close-up look at all of the beautiful horses, talented jockeys and top-notch trainers. It really gave you an appreciation for the athleticism of both the horses and the jockeys. I also loved the tradition of wearing a hat to the races. Almost all of the women bloggers donned a beautiful fascinator. Being one of the few male bloggers, I was happy to put my own spin on the tradition and wear my Brixton fedora.
Of course, the experience wouldn’t be complete without the energy of everyone cheering on their horse through the finish line. It can certainly be an overwhelming process trying to choose the right horse to bet on, but once again Victoria made it simple by breaking down and explaining the stats and the betting process. I’m happy to say I won on my first bet but probably should have stopped there before losing on my next — oops!
We’ll definitely be going back next summer and inviting more of our friends along for the experience.
